Research has shown that the main drug problem in Lesotho is alcohol and cannabis with dependence on prescribed sedatives and analgesics also being high ienough to be of concern.

According to a a UNODC INRA Assessment in May 2001, there are rare cases of Mandrax use, and norecognised use of other "harder" drugs.
