|---|
Like any other diseases surrounded by stigma, prejudice, fear and shame HIV/AIDS has also gathered to itself its fair share of myths and misconceptions. Many of these myths associated with this disease also cause the continuing rapid spread and even tragic infection of young female children when men are led to believe that having sex with a virgin can cure you of the pandemic.
Below are some common myths associated with HIV/AIDS. This list however is by no means complete and we would wish you to send in any myths you have heard about HIV/AIDS so that we might add them to this list. You may email us at goinghomedotcom@yahoo.com or send write us an article which we will post with your name and photo if you so wish. Articles should be sent as microsoft word attachments. Photographs too can be scanned and attached.

These are commonly held myths about sex and AIDS:
MYTH: Abstinence from sex, cause problems with getting penile erections
FACT: Abstinence does not cause problems in getting an erect penis nor does it cause harm to the reproductive organs.
MYTH: Having sex with a virgin will cure one of AIDS
FACT: Whoever or whatever you have sex with, there is NO cue for AIDS. If an HIV infected person has sex with a virgin he or she will probably transmit the virus to their partner.
MYTH: Having sex with prostitutes will cause one to be immune to AIDS.
FACT: Having sex with prostitutes will not only not make you immune to AIDs, but will in fact expose you to a high risk of getting infected by HIV
