| Students' indicipline: Why we shouldn't treat alochol like milk, fruit juice |

East African Standard 19th. August 2004
I WISH to comment on the KTN and East African Standard's coverage of the recent goings on at the national music festival over the last few days with special focus on the boys who were arrested ferrying and consuming all manner of alcoholic beverages inlcuding illicit liqour.
What comes out very clearly from all this is that we have come to a cross roads as far as the drug alcohol is concerened. because as long as we treat alcohol like milk or fruit juice we aill have problems.
Why should I care? I have not touched alcohol in four years (after drinking for 27 years). I try to stay sober one day at a time for the remaining days God will grant me.
When I saw those drunken boys on KTN it remainded me of where I have been and where I would not wish to return. It helped me strengthen my resolve for one more day. Converesely, I hope those in a similar situation who read this letter and who have given up hope on their loved ones will regain their hope at least to try again.
For KTN and EAS this coverage can only help a country in acute denial that problem exists. Parents forget about waiting for teachers, or clergy or the government top come to your aid. The result will be pain as you bury your child.
