In 2001 work on the goinghomedotcom Trust’s website begun culminating in a site that has kept on growing and that was originally launched as www.goinghomedotcom.org but was later changed to www.goinghomekenya.org.

This powerful, some say most powerful of all media (as it combines all aspects of the other media into one i.e. print, sound, and video) has also been fully utilized by the goinghomedotcom Trust. It allows us to undertake our outreach work not only in Kenya and the rest of Africa but also to the rest of the world.

Better yet this outreach is not limited by space and time but continues 24/7 all year round. This had been particularly useful as users are able to download information at any time and even duplicate it for forward transmission to those who may not have easy access to internet facilities.

It also allows us to keep available all the articles we have written as well as allowing us to publish others regularly on our online newssheet “Dala” (Home). The site also allows us to store radio programmes as well as video for downloading by interested parties.

On our Directory link we have already started listing other individuals or organisations who are also involved in any way with drug abuse related work in whatever capacity thus putting at the fingertips of the user of this website a wide array of resources and services. These include listings ranging from the various support group meetings to rehabilitation centres, to outreach projects and awareness groups. Numerous reports by various local organisations are also archived as well as a full bibliography of all materials available at our extensive resource center.

The Trust also designs and maintains websites for these individuals or organizations at a subsidized rate of Kshs. 5,000/- which includes such value added services as covering their functions (photography/video) for inclusion on their sites as well as offering unlimited space on the site. These sites are listed on the directory with direct links to them so that a who’s who is provided under one roof.

CHALLENGES:

1. The site needs to be publicised more so that many more users are made aware of it’s existence and so avail themselves of the various services and information it has to offer
2. More staff to update the piles of information already collected and merely awaiting to be included on the website.

HOW YOU CAN PARTICPATE:

1. Sponsor a page on the website at very modest rates. Individuals; Kshs. 500/- per year with a two sentence message from you appearing with your photo at the top of the page. For companies, businesses, schools, churches and other institutions Kshs 1,000/- per page per year and your institutions logo on top of the page.
2. Add yourself to our directory if you are involved in any way with drug abuse issues whether individually or as an organisation. The Kshs. 5,000/- we receive for running your website goes towards the overall publishing costs of not only www.goinghomekenya.org site, but of all the sites under this initiative. Note that all sites will have the URL: www.goinghomekenya.org/YourName
