OXYCONTIN

Introduced in the USA in 1995, it had been hailed as a miracle drug. It eases chronic pain with its dissolvable coating that allows a measured dose of the opiate OxyContine to be released into the bloodstream. They are sold as tiny white tablets.

Abusers chew or smash them to remove the time-release coating, then snort or inject, inject, generating a high as intoxicating as that of heroin.

OxyContin is becoming a dangerously popular drug in the U.S. as crack cocaine. School kids especially have now discovered OxyContin and how to obtain it. Numerous overdoses have also been reported.
