How You Can Help Control STDs

  1. Abstain from any sexual behaviour except within a continous faithful relationship, common to a stable marriage
  2. Seek medical treatment once you recognise any early signs or symptoms of STD, if you have been sexually active
  3. Desist from sexual behaviours likely to increase the risk of getting STD, particularly, promiscous premarital and extramarital sexual activity with multiple partners.
  4. Observe carefully the external genitals of your sexual partner. If you notice something unusual, ask about the condition before having sex. You would rather be embarrassed before sex than end up with an illness, pain and sorrow after sex.
  5. If a female becomes sexually active outside of a continuing, monogomous relationship, she should consider placing contaceptive foam, cream or jelly in the vagina prior to intercourse. These products contain chemicals that kill most of the STD pathogenic organisms
  6. If a male becomes sexually active outside of a continuing, monogomous relationship, he should consider using properly a condom, or "rubber", as a prophylactic (disease prevention) measure to reduce the chances of transmitting ot contracting STD during sexual contact
  7. Wash your hands and external sex organs with soap and water before and after sexual contact
  8. Urinate as soon as possible after sexual activity to flush out any infectious agents from the urethra
  9. As home tests for specific STDs become available, use the test kits to detect possible infections as soon as possible
  10. Warn your sexual partners of their exposure and possible infection if you develop warning symptoms of STD
  11. Encourage your sexual partner(s) to seek medical care if you have become infected with STD
