| YOUR TONGUE AS AN ALCOMETER |
|---|
(What your tongue tells you about your drinking and smoking and general health).
Here is how to use your tongue as a barometer of some of your habits or lifestyle. Chinese in their medicinal practices believe that different parts of your tongue relate to different parts of your body organs and knowing what tell-tale signs to look for on your tongue can be very telling about the condition of these organs. So next time you are not feeling too good, stick out your tongue (please in front of a mirror) and see what it reveals.
CRACKED:
Cracks at the front suggest a weakness in the lungs (cigarettes) Cracks along the side suggest greasy food
nyama(meat) fry, kuku(chicken) fry NB; These dishes are very popular in Kenyan drinking
spots)
PURPLE SPOTS:
If you get these on the right side it is your liver that has problems. Your liver is the largest organ in
your body and performs more functions than any other organ. It breaks down many kinds of substances to
provide energy as well as making toxic substances (like alcohol) harmless. Your liver can handle a certain
amount of alcohol(which is a poison to it) for a certain time, and which varies from person to person.
After that it becomes enlarged and inflamed. This is called cirrhosis and can be fatal if alcohol consumption continues. You can handle this by decreasing your consumption of alcohol to give the liver time to heal.
PURPLE SPOTS AT THE BACK OF YOUR TONGUE:
indicates problems with your kidneys. This imbalance may be due to too many late nights or stress. The
kidneys remove unwanted liquid from the body, which comes in the form of URINE. This unwanted liquid is
first stored in the BLADDER before it is passed out as urine.
THICKLY COATED:
This is a spleen deficiency that may make you feel tired and lethargic. The cause may again be too much
alcohol, which is often accompanied by poor diet, not enough rest and stress. A healthier lifestyle is
needed.
YELLOW COATED:
A stomach and spleen imbalance may be causing digestive problems and headaches. Improve your diet by
avoiding greasy heavy foods, too much daily products and coffee: eat more fresh fruit and veggies.
RED IN THE MIDDLE:
Digestive problems, possibly constipation. Could be cause by eating late at night, at irregular
times, too quickly or when worried.
VERY PALE PINK:
Indicates blood deficiency: your system may be a bit weak right now or you may even be anaemic. Check with
your Daktari and eat more iron rich foods (such as leafy green veggies or whole grains.
PINK, CLEAN AND SMOOTH WITH, WHITE COATING:
YOU ARE IN GOOD HEALTH!!!
NB: Checking your Breath.
Nothing beats bad breath to put a person off you and though most people will usually duck instead of coming
out and telling you, here is another quick test to check for bad breath. Making sure no one is watching,
lick your wrist, going from the back of your tongue to the very tip. Let it dry for about ten seconds and
then sniff. Now here is how you rate yourself. If you don't like how it smells, guess what? Neither will I.
